The plantain (the cooking or vegetable banana) is the green or unripened banana. Plantains are not harmful or toxic for dogs and are safe in small amounts on occasion. Plantains can be eaten raw, however are best to be boiled or steamed. An important distinction to make is that the Plantains Lily plant (a large, low-growing, shade-loving plant commonly found in flower beds also known as the "hosta" or "hostas") is toxic to dogs and both the leaves and flowers should never be consumed.
